When Josefine shatters the desolate desert with a single piercing note, her very birth disrupts the life of an ethereal shoal-sprite. Perched atop the highest peak, the young Josefine exerts control over the Shoal-sprite by voicing her needs for sustenance, water, and shelter through the enchanting power of her voice. As she matures and gains strength, her desire for freedom and exploration of the world beyond the peak intensifies.

Will the shoal-sprite manage to keep Josefine secure and shielded from harm, or will their well-meaning efforts lead to their own demise as well as hers? Can music serve as the link that unites them and rescues them from their inevitable destiny?

Josefine is a captivating musical animation helmed by the talented director Antonia Bain. The film will be showcased as an official selection at the NY Independent Art Film Fest on November 17th at the Producers Club.

Antonia Bain, a Scottish filmmaker and screenwriter, graduated with a Fine Art (Hons) degree from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design. Starting with an internship at multimedia design company 55degrees, she eventually became a content producer, crafting numerous short films for Glasgow's acclaimed Riverside Museum. Her portfolio includes short films like 'Veil' and 'Light Up', music videos, and short documentaries. In 2015, she joined Scottish Opera, producing promotional films for their digital platforms. Notably, she played a key role in establishing Scottish Opera’s Opera Shorts digital series, collaborating with composer Samuel Bordoli on the award-winning ‘The Narcissistic Fish’. Antonia completed the NFTS ‘Finding your voice’ screenwriting diploma course in 2022 and is currently working on her debut feature film. 'Josefine' marks her first venture into writing a libretto, co-created with Samuel Bordoli, and directing for animation.
